This chapter explores the aspects of documentary politicality in the media. It examines the very important function that speech performs in establishing and developing political specificity, and looks at the terms of the play-off between the cognitive and the emotional offer which documentaries make. The chapter also analyses assumptions and strategies concerning addressees and modes of address, together with the character of documentaries as agents of change in perceptions, opinions and actions.
