Edgefield and Texas: Rebuilding Identities

This chapter discusses the post-war experiences of James B. Griffin. He became so concerned about making a postwar living because his house was burned, his landholdings were greatly reduced and he had to support nine children. To avoid complicating his problems Griffin avoided politics, did not participate in the efforts against the Reconstruction and later moved to Texas.
