This chapter discusses Astrophil and Stella, which is slowly losing its lyrical meditation touch with its readers. There have been efforts to recover this work as an Elizabethan document and thus scholars have neglected to explore the ‘anti-lyrical’ perspective through which the poems first spoke in print. This poem features a number of Tudor elements, such as moralistic libello and quasi-autobiographical play.
