English iron founder, copper smelter, and brass manufacturer. In 1702 Darby entered into a partnership with three fellow Quakers and established a brass factory at Baptist Mills, in Bristol. In 1703 he established an iron pot foundry in Cheese Lane, Bristol, where he developed a new technique casting iron-bellied pots in sand; he patented the process in 1707.
