(Roman). The civitas‐capital of the Reg(i)ni; its Roman name was Noviomagus. The Roman town developed early. This can be ascribed to the influence of the pro‐Roman king Cogidubnus, mentioned on two exceptionally early Roman inscriptions from the town.
