Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A quantized mode in a many-body system, occurring because of cooperative motion of the whole system as a result of interactions between particles. Plasmons and phonons in solids are examples of collective excitations. Collective excitations obey Bose–Einstein statistics (see quantum statistics).
