This chapter describes the events surrounding the Russian Revolution along with its aftermath. It details how the ongoing political turmoil disrupted life in the city and classes at the Imperial Theater School. The school's dormitories were closed and its staff numbers were reduced. In the fall, students were welcomed back but only for day classes. Sometime in November 1917, Tamara and Aunt Mila Balanchivadze set off to join Meliton in Georgia; Andrei followed n January 1918. But Maria and Georgi/Georges did not leave their devastated city. Something appeared to have happened to keep them there. In early 1918, Georgi was still in the city with his mother and aunts, waiting to see what would happen with his school.
