‘Games people play’ looks at how probability can be appreciated and manipulated in different games. In a lottery there is no way of increasing the probability of your numbers coming up. However, you can pick your numbers so you are less likely to share a large prize. TV gameshows show Addition and Multiplication Laws in action. In card games, the Law of Large Numbers means that skill will win out over luck in the long run. However, understanding concepts like conditional probabilities, Bayes' Rule and the Principle of Restricted Choice will help players make better decisions when playing.
