Foot, Samuel Augustus (08 November 1780–15 September 1846), congressman, U.S. senator, and governor of Connecticut, was born in Cheshire, Connecticut, the son of John Foot and Abigail Hall. His father was a graduate of Yale and a prominent Congregational minister in Cheshire. Samuel himself entered Yale at age thirteen (1793) and graduated four years later. He read law briefly in Washington, Connecticut, before going off to the Litchfield Law School. Debilitating headaches finally forced him to abandon legal training. In 1803 he married Eudocia Hull; they had three children....
