Gallery, Daniel Vincent (10 July 1901–16 January 1977), naval officer and author, was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Daniel V. Gallery, a lawyer, and Mary Josephine Onahan. In 1917, at the age of sixteen, Daniel was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy. He graduated 47th in his class of 285 in 1920. After wrestling in the 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games, Gallery went to sea as an engineering specialist. In 1927 he elected flight training at Pensacola.
