Pomeroy, John Norton (12 April 1828–15 February 1885), lawyer, law professor, and author, was born in Rochester, New York, the son of Enos Pomeroy, a lawyer and surrogate (probate judge). His mother’s name is unknown. Pomeroy attended Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, but left school shortly before graduating.
