This artist exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1865 and 1876. After a quarrel with the Salon organizers, Bureau switched allegiance and, from 1876, exhibited together with the Impressionists. He drew much of his inspiration from the countryside around l'Isle-Adam on the banks of the Oise. His work betrays a soft romanticism akin to that of landscapes by Jongkind.
