Hughie O'Donoghue completed a Master's degree in art at Goldsmiths College in 1982. In 1995, he moved to County Kilkenny, Ireland. Using old letters, journals and photographs, O'Donoghue embraces the lives, myths and symbolism of the Irish people, particularly those of his own family. His earthy, organic paintings often incorporate photographs that have been painted over, removed, and painted over several times more, shifting framework and context with each new layer.
