As pain procedures become utilized more frequently for various pain states, it is important for the anesthesiologist to be aware of the various types of surgery offered, the anesthetic management for these surgeries, and the common comorbid conditions associated with this patient population. This chapter discusses the anesthetic management for procedures such as drug delivery systems, neuromodulation, and revisions of drug delivery systems and neuromodulation systems. The authors also discuss common comorbid conditions in this patient population, including chronic opioid states, polypharmacy, patients with spasticity, and patients at the end of life. Further information is also provided on neuromodulation implantation in patients with existing implanted cardiac devices.
