The focus of this chapter is on psychotherapy for late-life mood disorders. The reader will be introduced to the evidence-base for psychotherapy in late-life depression (LLD), and the methods for making psychotherapy accessible to all older adults, including people who are home-bound/disabled, are seen in primary care medicine, and who suffer from mild to moderate cognitive impairments. In particular, this chapter provides an introduction to three evidence-based psychotherapies for late-life mood disorders: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), problem-solving therapy (PST), and interpersonal therapy (IPT). This chapter concludes with recommendations for future research.
