This chapter focuses on the prevention of depression among older people. During the past decades the groundwork has been done to facilitate effective prevention of prevention at all ages. Much of this work has been done in older people. Different strategies for preventing depression are described, and their feasibility and effectiveness are systematically assessed. Ethical and economical issues are then discussed with the aim to show that, although we are drawing nearer to the point where large- scale implementation of prevention is possible, improving the reach and implementation of preventative interventions in mental health remains necessary.
