According to the theory of cognitive development of the Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget (1896–1980), the stage of cognitive development between the ages of approximately 7 and 12 years during which a child becomes proficient at manipulating internal representations of physical objects and acquires mastery of the various forms of conservation.
