This chapter examines the development of Televisión Serrana, a media collective located in the remote Sierra Maestra region. It addresses the following questions: How did the community media initiative manage to emerge in a time of economic uncertainty and sociopolitical upheaval on the island? How has it continued to thrive, given the decline in community-based media initiatives around the world? And how has it succeeded in building human capacity, preserving and promoting a unique sense of identity and community, and establishing alliances across the island and beyond? The project's success is primarily attributed to the balance achieved among international, national, and local partners.
