This chapter talks about Thomas Weld and describes who he was and what part he played in the sisters's story. Angelina greatly admired Weld, more than platonically. But it was widely accepted in abolitionist circles that he had pledged not to marry until slavery was abolished. When the furore broke out over the “woman question,” nothing was more natural than that Angelina should look for support and encouragement to Weld, who had always been in favor of her public speaking and writing. During this time Angelina and Weld became very close.
