This chapter begins with the description of a hoax email message instance, consisting of Sulfnbk.exe virus software, a byproduct of paranoia virus. The author explains the importance and necessity of correct coding and decoding of the hoax message types; to understand this thesis and the analogies of the text virus in a more effective way, he explains the context of Phaedrus, the famous Platonic dialogue in the time of Socrates. The relationship between machinic writing and the text virus covers the next parts of the chapter. The author states that by archiving, labeling, and rating viruses and hoaxes, antivirus firms set a tradition of categorization.
