Show Summary Details

This chapter examines the negative effects of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and related chemicals on children's development. It provides some background on PCBs and discusses the study conducted in the U.S. which led to recommendations that children and women of child-bearing age should limit consumption of Great Lakes fish. The first human PCB exposure was reported in 1899, where the subject developed an acne-like skin disease called chloracne. This chapter provides tips for reducing exposure to PCBs and for preventing further dispersal or spread of PCBs in the environment.
