(b New York, Sept 18, 1957; d Sydney, Australia, 3 or May 4, 1990). American guitarist. She played guitar from the age of ten and was inspired first by the work of the rock guitarists Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter and later, while attending the Berklee College of Music, by that of the jazz guitarists Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, and Charlie Christian. After graduating (at the age of 18) she moved to New Orleans, where as the house guitarist at the Fairmont Hotel she accompanied Nancy Wilson, Michel Legrand, and the popular singer Robert Goulet. Her career was aided by Herb Ellis, who introduced her at the Concord (California) Jazz Festival in 1978. During the following years she played with Astrud Gilberto (for three years in the early 1980s), appeared in David Friedman’s quintet at the Jazzfest Berlin (1982), and spent three months in the orchestra for the musical ...
