(orig. title Le Beau Danube bleu)

Ballet originally in two acts with choreography by Massine, music by Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss arr. Roger Désormière, set by Vladimir and Elizabeth Polunin (after Constantin Guys), and costumes by É. de Beaumont. Premiered 17 May 1924, Soirées de Paris de Comte É. de Beaumont, Théâtre de la Cigale, Paris, with Lopokova and Massine. A comedy set in the Vienna Prater of the 1860s, and involving a love triangle between a hussar, his high-born fiancée, and his former mistress, a street dancer. This last role was particularly associated with Danilova, who performed it when Massine revived the ballet in its final one-act version in 1933 for the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo. There have been many revivals, including London Festival Ballet in 1971 and the Joffrey Ballet in 1972.
