larva migrans

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Human infection by the larval phase of animal and avian nematode parasites, such as canine hookworm or lumbrical worms. The larval worms usually penetrate the skin, causing itching and a rash, but cannot complete their life cycle because humans are a dead-end host. Visceral larva migrans can occur with toxocariasis, and this is very serious if it affects the eyes.
