This chapter reflexively examines the ethnographic study at Ammunition Hill. The chapter pursues a re-examination of ethnographic practices: the theoretical lenses of performance are turned away from tourists, exhibits and inscriptions, and research practices and technologies. The chapter delineates the routine research procedures through which knowledge is produced ethnographically (with an emphasis on visual images)—practices which are typically overlooked. It concludes with a description of a performance ethnography piece that addressed writing and reading within the context of academic texts, and a few autobiographical notes.
