This chapter provides an overview of the main tools used within the PFC research programme to perform a wide range of tasks, from annotation to fine-grained measurements. The chapter discusses the structure of the PFC database and its accompanying website, emphasizing the importance of open technologies and open standards in order to ensure long-term availability of the data. It then presents an overview of the main features of the two programs used to work with the PFC data: Praat, a sofware package which is used for data annotation and phonetic analysis, and Dolmen, a tool designed to manage speech corpora and query speech annotations.
