A bracket but less decorative than a *console. It may also be one of a series of small blocks of progressively projecting masonry that helps to bridge the gap across an opening so that a dome may be built over a crossing. This is known as ‘corbelling out’. A corbel table is a row of corbels usually under the eaves of a building that forms the outer row of supports for the roof beams.
