Born 1857, in Rodez; died 1936, in Rodez.

Painter. Local scenes, genre scenes, urban landscapes, still-lifes, flowers.

Orientalism.

Bompard studied under Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1878, and took part in the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900 and the Exposition Coloniale in Marseilles in 1906. He was a member of the Société des Peintres Orientalistes Français (society of French oriental artists), and exhibited his paintings at the Salon des Artistes algériens et orientalistes in Algiers. He was awarded a travel bursary in 1882, which enabled him to visit Germany, Italy, Tunisia and Spain. He lived in Biskra, Algeria, between 1890 and 1900, where he painted scenes from everyday life. He became a Chevalier, then in 1914 an officer, of the Légion d'Honneur....
