He was the pupil of his father, the sculptor Georges-Philippe Clésinger, and spent some time at the Rome studio of the Danish sculptor Thorvaldsen in 1832. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1843, gaining third-class medals in 1846 and 1847, and a first-class medal in 1848. He had his first major success in 1847 with ...
