Csontvary was one of Hungarian painting's most original figures, whom some authors attempted to categorize as a naive painter. He began as an apprentice in business and then studied law and pharmacy. Upon receiving his diploma, he settled as a pharmacist in Igló. After a hallucination, which he maintained in his memoirs was inexplicable, and which was probably related to his mental illness, he began to paint. From ...
