Jacob van Deventer travelled widely in Germany and Holland, and received the title of geographer to King Phillip II of Spain. From 1557 to 1573, he drew the first maps of around 250 towns in Holland, which was then under Spanish suzerainty. His maps are remarkable for their fine detail.
