Pierre Giraud enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts on 29 August 1821, where he studied under Hersent and Richomme. He was awarded the Prix de Rome for engraving in 1826, and for painting medals in 1833 and 1863. Giraud was elevated to the Légion d'Honneur on 4 May 1851 and became an officer of the Legion in August 1866. He exhibited at the Salon from 1831 to 1866, showing portraits and paintings of historical subjects. His particular ability lay in his accomplished and vivid portrait caricatures of leading personalities in contemporary Paris....
