A biography of Pietro Lorenzetti can be little more than a chronological list of his works, some of which are lost, others uncertain of date or attribution. There is nothing to be learned from the early biographers, because Ghiberti and the 'Anonymous Magliabechiano' are silent on the subject and Vasari seems to be equally uninformed about him, since he is not only ignorant of the fact that Pietro was Ambrogio's brother, but he calls him Pietro Laurati (just as he calls Simone Martini 'Simone Memmi'). Moreover, Vasari attributes the Assisi frescoes, Pietro Lorenzetti's core works, to Giotto. The first work that can be dated with certainty is the polyptych ...
