John Meredith really began to paint around 1960, when Expressionism was at its height. Although traces of this pictorial exuberance, reminiscent of gestural painting, remain in his work, the result in his case is more controlled and suggests an Oriental iconography. He remained faithful to this imagery, which may be of a mystical nature....
