Michael Ponce de Leon spent several months in the studio of Rolf Nesch in Norway in 1956-1957. On returning to the USA he tried new things in the area of three-dimensional engraving; he soldered a series of shapes of varying thicknesses onto metal sheets. His inking is done section by section, in as many colours as necessary, since each shape is soldered at a different level or placed side by side like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle....
