Ernst Schleith was a pupil of Robert Pötzelberger, and of Carlos Grethe at the academy of fine arts in Stuttgart. He also studied under Karl or Stanislas Kalckreuth (most probably at the academy of Weimar), and Hans Thoma (possibly at the academy of Karlsruhe). He settled in Wiesleth, near Lörrach....
