From 1989 he led a quintet, the Chromatic Persuaders, which included Mark Feldman, Lindsey Horner, and Tom Rainey, and, from 1991, an octet, with Jack Walrath, Tom Varner, Horner, Rainey, the trombonist Ed Neumeister, and the saxophonists Billy Drewes and Sam Furnace.
