(b Genoa, Nov 4, 1946).Italian soprano. She studied at the Genoa Conservatory and with Michele Casato, and made her début at Budapest in 1966 as Eleonora in Cimarosa’s Il convito with the Italian Opera Giacosa company. She sang in Teheran, 1969–76, acquiring a repertory of coloratura and other roles including Susanna, Zerlina and the Queen of Night, as well as Adina, Lucia, Norina, Gilda and Violetta. Engagements following her return to Italy included Covent Garden (1980) as Olympia, and La Scala as Lucia; she was also especially admired as Amina. Her American début at Charleston as Violetta was followed by Lakmé with the Chicago Lyric Opera, and she has appeared in South America and South Africa. Her recordings include I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Aureliano in Palmira and Fra Diavolo, as well as the Queen of Night under Colin Davis (1985) and Norina under Campanella (...
