Chapter 5 discusses postoperative seizures, and that they are rare events that may be challenging to evaluate, diagnose, or manage. It is important to recognize and respond to neurologic changes occurring in the perioperative period. Specifically, perioperative physicians should have a clear comprehension of the pathophysiology of and risk factors for seizures as well as the common treatments. This chapter will not discuss seizure activity in neurosurgical patients.
