Chapter 3 discusses the first topic of the Taming the BEAST CBT program of socialization. During these sessions, the therapist establishes rapport with the patient, and CBT is introduced. The components of the BEAST acronym are discussed (biology, emotion, action, situation, thoughts), as well as common questions that patients have and processes of tracking moods. A treatment contract is also drawn up between the therapist and patient.
