For England. The body formed in 1948 by the amalgamation of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners and Queen Anne's Bounty. It is responsible for managing many of the C of E's historic assets. By the National Institutions Measure 1998 the number of the Commissioners was reduced from 95 to 33 and a number of its functions, including some financial responsibilities, passed to the Archbishops' Council.
