Described later by him as someone ‘in the prime and vigour of his years’ who had died ‘at that moment his prospects were brightest’ (Pic Nic Papers, p. 2). The two probably met in 1835, introduced to each other by Ainsworth (Forster 1.5), whose popular Rookwood (1834) Macrone had published through his own company founded in September 1834.
