Examples from vision are often used in philosophical discussions of perception but vision itself is rarely the focus of discussion. The basics of vision science are reviewed and features of potential philosophical significance are highlighted. The processing of visual information in the brain is reviewed and some deficits of vision due to cortical damage are briefly characterized. Finally some philosophical questions specific to vision are introduced and the main positions summarized.
